How to Prep for a Professional Cleaning (If You Want To — No Pressure)

Getting ready for a professional deep clean can make everything go more smoothly and help you get the most out of the service. That said, we're not picky — at FaeClean, we clean all kinds of homes, even the "I swear I was going to clean this yesterday" kind."

Here are a few things you can do if you feel up to it:

1. Pick Up the Loose Stuff

Toys, clothes, the cups that have been piling up on your nightstand — moving those out of the way makes it easier for us to get into the nooks and crannies. At FaeClean, we don't mind clutter (really!), but since we charge hourly, the less we have to work around, the more cleaning we can get done within the time you're paying for.

2. Tell Us What You Need

Do you have a bathroom that needs extra love? A drawer you'd rather we not open? Just let us know. The more you share, the better we can tailor the cleaning to you.

3. Clear Off Surfaces (If You Want Them Cleaned)

We're happy to move and wipe items on counters or even clean inside drawers. However, if there are items you don't want touched, feel free to set them aside or let us know what to leave alone.

4. Put Away Valuables & Fragile Things

It's totally up to you, but if you have anything fragile, expensive, or sentimental, it's always a good idea to tuck it somewhere safe, especially if you won't be home during the cleaning.

5. Let Us Know What Spaces to Skip

If there's a room you don't want us to clean (or even enter), no problem. You can tape a note to the door, leave a message, or tell us in person.

6. Leave Out Products (If You Have a Favorite)

We bring our own supplies that we know work well (and fast), but if there's something specific you want us to use (or avoid), leave it out with a note.

Heads up: many "natural" cleaners don't cut it when it comes to deep cleaning and might increase the time (and cost) of your service.

7. Pets!

If your pet tends to get underfoot or is nervous around new people, it's best to keep them in a separate room. But if they're chill and want to say hi, we're always down for a quick hello!

Also, if you have pets, please let us know in advance — it helps us prep and select the right supplies for your home.

8. Parking

Do you have a tricky driveway or no free parking nearby? Let us know in advance. If we need to pay for parking, it'll be included in the invoice.

9. Working From Home?

Totally fine! Just let us know your schedule so we can clean around your workspace. We do a LOT of vacuuming — we usually vacuum surfaces before wiping them down, so it might be best to avoid Zoom calls. Alternatively, we can clean on the opposite side of the home while you're in a meeting.

Heads-up: I'm neurodivergent myself, and I almost exclusively work with noise-canceling headphones to help me stay focused. It means I'm super in the zone, but if you need to get my attention, just give me a wave or tap me on the shoulder (gently!). Fair warning: I'm also very jumpy, so I might do a little startled dance. It's fine. I'll recover.

10. Anything Special?

If there's something delicate, such as antique furniture or a tricky appliance, just let us know how you'd like us to handle it.

TL;DR:

You don't have to do much to get ready. But a little prep (if you're up for it) can make the cleaning more efficient and cost-effective — and help us do our best work.

Do you have questions, quirks, or specific needs?

Please send us a message! We're happy to talk it through and ensure you feel comfortable and well taken care of.
